Saltees Islands

20th June 2010

On Sunday, 20th June, I met up with a group of photographers from all over the country, members of Photography Ireland. A great bunch of guys and girls of different levels of ability, the more experienced photographers amongst us more than happy to share their wisdom.

We met in Kilmore Quay Wexford with a boat hired to bring us to Greater Saltee Island. The trip was a first for me and I was looking forward to capturing images of gannets and of puffins in particular. The island itself is a haven for many sea birds with several thousand gannets in a colony, and many thousands more birds; guillemots, razorbills, black-back gulls, cormorants, the iconic puffins, and many many more.

We spent the day in glorious sunshine, hiking across the island to the main colonies of birds. The day ending with a trip back to the harbour where we were joined by dolphins enroute to end a perfect day.
