Portmarnock for Sunset
After a day cooped up in the house with rain showers on and off preventing any thoughts of a hike earlier, I eventually decided to head out before sunset and hopefully have some luck with the weather. Being undecided with no real plan of where to go I found myself in Portmarnock which is only twenty minutes from my house. I found this to be a perfect place as the coastal road allows you to check the scene from the comfort of the car and if the rain came back I was never far from shelter.
The Sun shone as I parked the car up and my hopes were lifted of a decent couple of hours. The clouds were moving fast and the eastern horizon was picking up the light from the sun as it descended to the west.
Two hours to go to sunset, I headed out along the shoreline to explore. I've only been to Portmarnock once with the camera and that time the tide was in, whereas now it was on its way back from a low tide uncovering sandy beach and unusual rock formations along with some grass like seaweed full of life. These formed natural composition of lead in lines with the s curve of the beach looking to the east with Lambay Island on the horizon.
A dream like seascape with the sun setting to the west beyond low rock swimming area in Portmarnock. A challenging dynamic range to capture with the camera, might be a bit overcooked for some peoples taste, but I kind of like this as it displays the surreal beauty of sunset bathing the scene in glorious light.
The long vibrant sea grass along the shoreline rocks of Portmarnock as the tide approached ready to submerge them again.
Keeping an eye to the horizon behind me, my hopes of a better sun set faded as the dark clouds swept in from the west and this time there appeared to be no breaks, I figured it was time to head home. Five minutes into the drive home and the rain swept in my luck held for a couple of hours and I was happy I'd bagged a couple of photos and a some time out in the fresh air.
