Whilst away for the weekend with the wife and kids we took a trip to Loftus House and nearby Hook Lighthouse. The location of the lighthouse gives lot of opportunities for photography, from the east and the west which meaning it could be great for both sunrise and sunset shoots.
As it often happens when out with the family we visited early afternoon on one of the hottest days this year, the sun was high in the sky and not the most conducive to landscape photography, though I wasn't doing landscapes I was walking around with the wife and kids :) just happened to have a camera in hand.
This is definitely a place I would come back to at sunrise or sunset or maybe an overnight camp to photograph both.
If I am back in Wexford soon I will definitely try get some time to shoot the lighthouse and coastal areas. The shot below I tried to bring in the surrounding elements in this case a field of wheat or barley which looked splendid in the summer sun. I quite liked the idea of being lost in the fields and the lighthouse guiding the way, in reality I was at the edge of the field holding my camera at arms length into the crop.
Testing our some compositions quickly while we made our way back from the shore. Some flowers in the foreground pity they've probably passed their sell by date, bit of a tilt in the lighthouse too I havent edited this and it was shot handheld whilst i negotiated the slope.
The sun being high in the sky and a super sunny cloudless day at that meant it was hard to get any shots without flare. This one I rescued in post by turning to black and white and adding some contrast.
I really liked our short visit to this beautiful part of the world, Hook Head, County Wexford in Ireland and look forward to revisiting. These photos I haven't included in landscape gallery as they were more record shots I think and weren't purposefully taken with tripod and filters etc, though some I do think probably do rate well. When I get back next time I hope to get great images.
