Grey Squirrel on a tree trunk.

In the past I have tried to capture images of squirrels but more often than not they were on the ground with messy backgrounds or high grass. Any that had went up a tree usually played hide and seek with me running around the trunk whilst they kept to the other side, smart little creatures.

This little guy had just arrived on the tree trunk and was blissfully unaware of me as I was in the forest in the shade, I carefully crept closer to get in range with my lens and composed so that I could exclude any distracting branches in the background.

Using a relatively long lens of 200mm with a wide aperture F4 helped to blur the background and have what is called a bokeh affect i.e. the highlights in the background are given a disc shape.

The fact I was in shade with the squirrel just at edge of forest, and the background in the sunlit open area meant I could get a beautiful sharp image with lovely exposure and background that helps make the squirrel pop from the image.

I'd love to have your comments.
